Yes, weeks. Plural, baby!
Over the past two weeks, I’ve gone to 4 restaurants for Virginia Beach & Norfolk’s restaurant week(s). Not as many as I would have liked, but my wallet (& waistline) has already threatened to break up with me, so I didn’t want to push it.
The first restaurant I went to was Salacia. I might have been a bit biased because my co-worker had gone 2 nights prior. At the end of the night, I really didn’t want to go back…ever. It’s not my cup of tea, and the experience felt rushed. They claim to be the only AAA Four-Diamond Steakhouse in Virginia, but my steak was nothing special. I still prefer Ruth Chris over any steakhouse hands down.
A couple of days later, I went to McCormick & Schmick’s for lunch. This place was great. I heard mixed reviews, so I was glad to see that it was on Virginia Beach’s restaurant week list! We were one of the first ones there, so we were seated pretty quickly and in a booth. (Yea, I kinda make a big deal about sitting in booths!)
The food was superb and the service was top notch: attentive, not annoying. Our waitress made fun of me for taking pictures of the food, but then I told her it was for my food blog!
The first Norfolk restaurant I tried was Sirena Cucina Italiana. Me and my friend Katrina needed a reason to hang out and have a nice dinner, so why not?! My first impression: DRAB. It looks soo bare and cold. I know they’ve been in business for a couple of years, but it looks like they just opened. And not in a good way because they tried to cover up stained walls with dim lights.
Anyway! Let me just say that the service was just fine. The carpaccio was delish. Everything else was forgettable. It was my first time having lamb but the I don’t know…the dish just reminded me of something I’ve eaten before and it wasn’t exciting. Oh well, at least I only spent $30, right?
Last but not least—Trilogy. It had been weeks since I last saw my 2 best friends, and since we’re all food lovers, it was a perfect setting!
I’m not even going to ramble on, but the food was decent, the service needs work, and they need to stop acting snooty. You never know who’s going to blog about your restaurant! Hmph!
