For my mother’s birthday years ago, okay like two years ago, I gave her Ellie Kriger’s The Food You Crave recipe book and she’s only made one recipe since. She tried making her Turkey Meatloaf and her Smashed Potatoes with Sour Cream & Chives. Well, it wasn’t a hit for her, but it was for me! So, ladies & gents… meatloaf is what’s for dinner tonight.

After reading this post in my Google Reader, I started to crave it. It truly is my Filipino comfort food. Luckily for me, my mother emails me and asks me if I want to have dinner at my parents’ house this weekend. Um, hell yes! Of course I ask her for the recipe, and she starts whining.
Oh yeah! I forgot to tell you…I sent her a link to my blog this past this week and at first she was happy. The next day? Not so much. She said, “Just look up Filipino recipes online! I don’t measure, it’s all in my head!” And after an hour of bickering, she says, “Fine!” Haha. Love you, Mom.
Yes, weeks. Plural, baby!
Over the past two weeks, I’ve gone to 4 restaurants for Virginia Beach & Norfolk’s restaurant week(s). Not as many as I would have liked, but my wallet (& waistline) has already threatened to break up with me, so I didn’t want to push it.
Pad See Ew is my favorite Thai dish. For someone who’s still trying new foods, this dish is perfect. I know a lot start eating Pad Thai when trying Thai for the first time, but I didn’t like the peanut mixed in with my food. I read on someone’s blog recently that Pad See Ew literally means “fried with soy sauce.” Um, I like anything fried and I definitely love soy sauce. I mean, I could just eat jasmine rice with soy sauce as a snack.
