Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. this week. Nothing to say except that life gets busy!
I started my cake decorating class last weekend and I’ve already learned so much. Our instructor owns her own bake shop out in Pungo but primarily makes wedding cakes. The first thing she says is: “Homemade is great, but I prefer packaged cake mix…more specifically Duncan Hines’ Moist Deluxe Butter Recipe Golden Cake Mix.”

Meet my hibiscus plant, Eden - still blooming after 5 years <3
Since me and my boyfriend are going to the big apple in 2 weeks for our 5 year anniversary, we decided to stay in, cook, and have a movie marathon. I’ve been craving a burger, so I made Hackney’s Inside-Out Burger. I’ve made these before and they were a big hit.

I’ve been in a cake mood lately. I bought Nigella Lawson’s How to Be a Domestic Goddess months ago and I still hadn’t made anything from the book. I typically use the internet to find recipes, but thought, “Well, you do have many cookbooks, why not use them? You did buy them after all.” And yes, I talk to myself using second-person narrative.
I like using any reason to bake/cook something. Take Super Bowl weekend, for example..
I felt like making a cake, so I did. My intention was to make a birthday cake for my mother, but she already had one. But that didn’t stop me from baking during this wintery weekend. Nothing fancy shmancy, but good ole cake!
Yes, weeks. Plural, baby!
Over the past two weeks, I’ve gone to 4 restaurants for Virginia Beach & Norfolk’s restaurant week(s). Not as many as I would have liked, but my wallet (& waistline) has already threatened to break up with me, so I didn’t want to push it.
This is one of my favorite Filipino breakfast/dessert treats. It took forever to get the recipe from my mother. I told you, she never taught me how to cook nor did she want to share any recipes. She hates going “step-by-step” because she says “ebryting ish jez in my hed, yew noe? Ay! I deedent write it down!”
